Meet Nick

  1. What’s your favorite brand and why? It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I’m going to go for an unexpected one— simplehuman. I appreciate their simple (no pun intended), effective branding, but more importantly how that branding translates into the quality of their products. They do such an excellent job at designing products that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but incredibly functional and meet practical needs (or luxuries) that make menial, everyday tasks more enjoyable. I mean, when you can produce a trash can that makes people happy to use it, you must be doing something right. 2. We know you’re a pretty talented graphic designer – what’s your favorite part of the job? Oh stop… thanks! Conceptual projects. Being in the early stages of a project where you are asking big questions and trying to figure out the best way to approach something or convey an idea is pretty daunting sometimes, but always most fulfilling when you are able see it all the way through and watch it develop through the process. Branding projects are often like this— what is [insert company/organization/etc.] all about and how can we convey that?— as well as campaigns where you get to creatively figure out the best way to communicate a message. More specifically though, I also have been doing a lot of animation/motion design lately and have thoroughly enjoyed bringing designs to life and growing in that field. 3. What’s a recent project you’re most proud of? Having the opportunity to develop the branding for San Diego Restaurant Week and the majority of the campaign visuals has been very rewarding. Our team has done an amazing job in the developmental stages of the brand language and campaign directions, so being able to back that up with design has been a lot of fun. I’m excited to see more of those out in the wild as we get closer to September and future Restaurant Weeks. 4. If you could give one piece of advice to your teenage self, what would it be? Don’t take those AP classes— you won’t sleep. 5. What does your ideal Saturday consist of? Going on little adventures with my wife & kids, checking a couple things off the to-do list (so it doesn’t pile up and start overwhelming!), and spending some relaxing time with family/friends. 6. If you could only eat 3 foods for the rest of your life, what would they be? I’m going to cheat and do types of food— am I allowed? Cool, thanks. Mexican, Greek, and Thai food!
